Contact Me

Rich King has been with the Anacortes School District since April 2021 and currently is working as a Systems Administrator and Technology Projects Manager.
Rich is originally from Boston, MA and is still a huge fan of Boston sports (especially hockey - Go Bruins!). In 2004 he moved to Texas where he lived for almost 17 years. During that time, he completed his Associates Degree in Information Technology & Computer Networking and began a career in IT around 2010.While in Texas, Rich worked with Texas A&M University for 9 years in roles ranging from desktop computer support to IT Manager for the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. From 2017 until 2019 he also served as the Director of IT for the Health Science Center. Working in a healthcare setting with live patients every day taught Rich to embed cybersecurity into all aspects of his job. He learned that IT security is not reserved for the "security team" or the Information Security Officer - IT Security is everyone's responsibility. In 2019, he left the health-sciences arm of the University and moved to the Texas A&M Forest Service as a Systems Administrator and Network Engineer where he remained until 2021 when he made the move to Washington State. The Forest Service introduced Rich to technologies like RoIP (Radio over IP) and GIS software used for detailed forest mapping and forest fire prevention/incident response.Rich fell in love with the Pacific Northwest during his first visit back in 2012, so this recent move to Washington has been a dream come true. Rich has three children, Zoe (16), Zachary (12) and Zayne (8), and lives with his wife of 14 years, Brittany, on Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor. Rich enjoys spending time outdoors with the family, camping, hiking, etc., but has always maintained a deep passion for technology. While most of his free time is spent working on his Bachelor's Degree in IT Management, he always makes time to tinker with vintage computers and video game systems, of which he has a modest collection. Some of the oldest items in the collection include a Tandy 1000HX and a TI-99/A.
