Leadership Lessons from a High School Dropout
How does a high school dropout become the Assistant Superintendent - Chief Operations Officer of the second largest school district in Oregon? This is a session for technical staff that want to grow into leadership positions in the future. You don’t need a fancy degree or education, though it helps accelerate the growth. I’ll share the strategies that I have learned and used during my career in education that started as a web developer with no experience at an ESD in Eastern Oregon 24 years ago.

Under the Hood: A Peer Review Experience
Chris Bailey will share Edmonds School District's recent experience going through the CoSN Peer Review process, an independent evaluation of department practices and procedures. The CoSN Matrix outlines the practices needed to be a successful digital school system.

Edmonds invited CoSN to bring a team of reviewers to assess policies and procedures, practices, budgets, etc. as well as to come on-site to interview cabinet and executive leadership, school administrators, teachers, and department staff. The result was a executive summary presentation as well as a details report outlining successes and areas for growth or potential concern.

Our team is now working to align our efforts with the vision of the district and the best practices outlined in the CoSN Peer Review report.

CoSN has created a resource to help leaders build a shared understanding of digital equity for their district. As school districts work towards realizing digital equity, several key areas need to be addressed. These five key areas include; connectivity, hardware, teaching and learning, digital citizenship and tech support. Everett Public School's Interactive Flat Panel and Classroom Audio Projects- Pivots, Planning, Project/Product management, and Supply Chain Adventures
Every project has its story- starting with our Elementary Schools and as part of the last large project of our 20216 Levy, EPS had been investigating solutions for both audio enhancement and updates to our classroom presentation systems (moving from desk or ceiling-mounted projectors to short-throw interactive projectors).  These projects pivoted rapidly due to direction from our district leadership and an evaluation from contracted engineers.  EPS shifted to a standard of Front Row Juno systems and Boxlight Procolor Interactive panels in every Elementary classroom.  Our presentation will cover this history, the bumps in the road that we have encountered/anticipate, and the lessons we continue to learn as we navigate supply chain, RADIX device management, and professional development.

Link Oregon & K-12 Networking in the New Broadband Era
The panel will discuss approaches to addressing today’s challenges in delivering educational content and other digital services for K-12 students throughout Oregon—particularly around broadband connectivity made even more dire during the pandemic. As a non-profit partnership and network provider, Link Oregon brings together key experts shaping the state education technology landscape to articulate how their organizations are working together to identify needs and develop responses to extend services equitably to all Oregon communities. We will discuss the outlook for ensuring better broadband connectivity for urban, rural, and Tribal K-12 schools, particularly with significant infrastructure funding that will soon be available through federal and state programs. We will touch on the critical role that K-12 institutions and public libraries play in their communities and how to address the needs of students, faculty, staff, and the community as a whole in remote learning as well as telehealth, resilience, and sustainability.

Benefits of Board-Level Repairs
Your District could be (and probably is) saving time and money by doing In-House repairs. Sending devices out for repair by Vendors or 3rd Parties is expensive and has long turnovers before your devices are back in the hands of Staff or Students. And maybe your District already does repairs in-house. Let's take it one step further and talk about how investing in Microsoldering can help your District. Come hear about the benefits of Microsoldering and watch a live demo, because maybe repairing a circuit board isn't as hard or expensive as you think.

The Web Filter Evolution
Richland School District will go through our journey with web content filters, cyber safety applications, classroom management applications, and parent apps for monitoring and managing student Internet access.  Over the last decade, Richland has been on the lookout for a single ecosystem to be used in meeting the challenge of today's connected learning environments.   The evolution of web filtering has changed over the years.  We needed to find a way to keep our students safe online that has evolved past a standard web filter.  The ecosystem includes a mechanism to protect students based on their online behavior, a way for teachers to monitor and control their classroom, and a way to engage with parents to keep their children safe online.

Digital Student Record Transfer: Supporting kids as they move between districts
When a student moves between districts, a physical copy of the record follows, often leaving a student without timely support to keep them engaged. In a time when districts are suffering from high turnover and staffing losses, and grad rates dropping, our students and schools cannot afford to keep following processes that, while time-honored, are no longer efficient.

Education Nexus Oregon (ENO) will share how we are leveraging the Ed-Fi tech stack, collaborating with others in the Ed-Fi Community, to build a system that allows for the request, approval, and secure transmission of student records between (ENO member) districts.
